Watermelons in a barrel whole for the winter

For the preparation of this pickle, medium-sized fruits are suitable, ripe with a bright green peel. Watermelons are salted entirely in a simple marinade, which does not require a lot of time and work, however, such an appetizer will delight for a long time!

Ingredients

Cooking process

step 1 out of 5
We prepare the container in advance (in my case it is a plastic barrel for 60 liters): wash it and pour it over with boiling water. Fruits should be medium, sonorous, they are better salted. We also wash them thoroughly.
step 2 out of 5
We put half of the branches of currants and cherries on the bottom of the barrel, forming a "pillow", and upstairs, as tightly as possible to each other, we put our watermelons, trying to leave as little empty space as possible.
step 3 out of 5
On top of the barrel filled with fruits, tightly lay out the second part of the branches, filling the voids between the upper watermelons. They will give the appetizer a unique taste and aroma.
step 4 out of 5
Let's prepare the brine: for a ten-liter bucket, we need half a kilogram of salt. Mix thoroughly and fill the barrel to the brim so that all fruits and branches are covered with water.
step 5 out of 5
After that, we close the barrel with a lid and put it in a dark place (basement, cellar) for 2-3 months. Bon Appetit!
