Ingredients

Cooking process

step 1 out of 7
For ketchup, choose mature, meaty tomatoes. Wash them well, cut into pieces and remove the stalks. Then twist the tomatoes in a meat grinder with a fine grid.
step 2 out of 7
Peel the onions and cut into medium pieces. Wash the apples, cut into slices and remove the cores with seeds. Chopped apples and onions are also minced in a meat grinder.
step 3 out of 7
Pour the tomato and applesauce into a saucepan and place over medium heat. Pour the calculated amount of salt and sugar into the puree and cook the ketchup after boiling over low heat for one hour. During this time, the mashed potatoes should be boiled down by 1 liter.
step 4 out of 7
Place the cloves and black pepper on a piece of cheesecloth, tie in a knot and place in boiling ketchup.
step 5 out of 7
Peel hot peppers from seeds, cut into small pieces and transfer to ketchup. If children will eat ketchup, do not add hot pepper.
step 6 out of 7
Be sure to try ketchup by the end of cooking and adjust the taste as you like. Remember that the thickness of the cooked ketchup is determined by the cooking time. Remove the spice bundle from the finished ketchup. Grind the ketchup with an immersion blender and bring to a boil again.
step 7 out of 7
In a separate saucepan, boil the jars and lids for a few minutes. Pour hot ketchup into sterile jars and immediately seal it hermetically. Flip the ketchup jars onto the lids and cover with a warm blanket. Then transfer them to storage.
