Sour cherry compote

Homemade compotes with a slight sourness are especially refreshing. Fresh or frozen cherries are perfect as a base. Chilled compote can be served on the festive table instead of lemonades and purchased juices.

Pour water into a saucepan and put it on fire, add citric acid and sugar. You can add more sugar if you want a sweeter drink. Bring the syrup to a boil, stirring constantly.

When the syrup boils, add the washed cherries; it is not necessary to remove the seeds. Bring the compote to a boil and turn off the stove, cover the pan with a lid and leave to cool.

Chill the compote before serving and add a couple of mint leaves if desired.
