Cherry and orange compote

The slight tartness of cherries is excellently combined with fresh citrus notes of orange flavor. To complete the picture, you do not need to remove the zest from the fruit, you just need to wash it well.

Sort out the cherries, wash them well. Wash the orange with a brush, rinse with boiling water. Cut the fruit into slices about 5 mm thick with the rind.

Sterilize jars over steam or in the microwave, wash the lids and rinse with boiling water. Arrange the cherries and orange slices in the jars. Pour granulated sugar on top.

Boil water and pour over cherries and oranges in jars. Cover the jar with a lid and let stand for about 20 minutes. Drain the jar into a saucepan, bring to a boil and reduce heat to low, simmer for 5 minutes.

Pour boiling water over the fruits in a jar, roll up with a sterilized lid. Turn upside down, wrap in a warm blanket and leave to cool until morning. Put the orange and cherry compote in the pantry or cellar.
