Peel the onions and garlic, rinse under water. Cut the peeled onions into thin half rings.

Place the snack jars in a saucepan, cover the bottom with a towel. Pour warm water over the hangers of the jars. Cover with sterile lids, put on fire, bring to a boil and sterilize for 10 minutes. Gently remove the hot snack jars, screw them on with sterile lids, turn them upside down and leave to cool, wrapped in a blanket.
