Green tomatoes as in Soviet times in stores

I learned this recipe from my grandmother and I want to share it with you. Green tomatoes taste like store-bought green tomatoes in Soviet times. Our family loves a green tomato appetizer to be served with potato dishes.

Ingredients

Cooking process

step 1 out of 10
First, prepare the brine. Pour the required amount of drinking water into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Add salt and granulated sugar and boil for 3-5 minutes.
step 2 out of 10
Rinse green tomatoes, horseradish leaves thoroughly under cold running water, dry. Peel the garlic and onions. Wash and sterilize the jars thoroughly in the microwave or oven. Place a few cloves of garlic and horseradish leaves on the bottom of sterile jars.
step 3 out of 10
Chop green tomatoes in several places around the stalk with a toothpick. Place the prepared tomatoes tightly together in the jars.
step 4 out of 10
Add black peppercorns.
step 5 out of 10
Add dill seeds. Cut the peeled onions into rings 2 centimeters wide.
step 6 out of 10
Place horseradish leaves and onion rings on top.
step 7 out of 10
Fill the jars with boiling brine.
step 8 out of 10
Cover with lids after pouring boiling water over them or simmer in a saucepan for about 10 minutes. Leave it on for 20 minutes. Then pour the brine from the jars into a saucepan, put on fire and boil for 5-7 minutes.
step 9 out of 10
Pour the boiling brine over the green tomatoes.
step 10 out of 10
Pour vinegar essence into each jar. Screw on with screw caps or roll up with a sealer. Turn the jars upside down and wrap them in a warm blanket. Leave in this form until it cools completely, about a day. Then put the jars in a cool, dark place for storage.

Bon Appetit!
